Nasacort information

Nasacort (triamcinolone acetonide) is a nasal steroid that works directly on nasal tissue to reduce swelling and inflammation. It is used to treat allergic rhinitis symptoms such as nasal itching, runny nose, postnasal drip, nasal congestion, and sneezing.

Using Nasacort

Make sure you understand how to use the spray properly; you can ask your physician to demonstrate the correct way. Shake well before use. Nasacort must reach the nasal tissue to be effective, so you should blow your nose to clear the nasal passage before using the medication. If passages are persistently blocked, a nasal decongestant may be used first (for a maximum of 3 to 5 days). Be sure to aim spray away from the nasal septum in the middle of the nose and toward the inflamed areas of the nasal passages. Nasacort must be used routinely to be effective. It may take a few days before the benefits can be noticed. Do not take more doses or more frequently than you were prescribed. If you do not notice any improvement after 2-3, consult a doctor. Use this medication with caution if sores or injuries are present in the nasal passages.

What to do on a missed Nasacort Dosge

Use the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is already time for the next regularly scheduled dose. In the latter case, skip the missed dose and take only the next one. Do not take a double dose.

Nasacort's Side Effects

Nasacort may cause irritation, stinging, burning, or dryness of the nasal passages. Sneezing, nosebleed, headache, lightheadedness, loss of taste, throat irritation or nausea may also occur. If these symptoms persist or are bothersome, consult a doctor. The following more severe side effects are unlikely to occur, but if they do you should consult a MD immediately: persistent nose or throat irritation/soreness, white patchy areas, broken or damaged nasal membranes, unusual weakness, weight loss, nausea/vomiting, fainting, dizziness, vision changes.

Drug Interactions with Nasacort

Before using Nasacort, tell your MD and pharmacist about all prescription and nonprescription medication you may be taking. The use of other steroids, whether oral or inhaled, may increase the chance of side effects or overdose.
