Nasonex is used to treat and prevent allergy-related nasal symptoms such as stuffiness and congestion.
Using Nasonex
Shake well before each use. Prime the spray pump according to the pharmacist's instructions. Take exactly as directed, usually two sprays in each nostril per day. Do not take more often or for longer than was prescribed for you. Use Nasonex regularly during the prescribed period in order to enjoy the full effect. Improvement in symptoms occurs generally within 2 days and full benefit is achieved after 1-2 weeks of use.
When used for seasonal allergy, Nasonex treatment is best started 2 to 4 weeks before the season.
How to store Nasonex
Store at room temp. away from moisture and heat. Keep out of the reach of children. Avoid prolonged exposure of the Nasonez unit direct light when removing it from its cardboard container.
What to do on a missed Nasonex Dosge
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, but if it is almost time for your next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next one regularly scheduled. Avoid taking a double dose.
Nasonex's Side Effects
Side effects of Nasonex use may include headache or sore throat might occur. If these symptoms persist or are bothersome, consult a doctor.
The following more serious side effects are very unlikely to occur, but if they do, consult a MD immediately: vision changes, unusual nasal bleeding or irritation/pain, blood-tinged mucus/phlegm, unusual increase in thirst or urination, nausea, weakness, weight loss.
In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek emergency medical help. Some symptoms of allergic reaction are rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, and difficulty breathing.
Drug Interactions with Nasonex
Tell your MD about every other drug you may be using, whether prescription or non-prescription, especially other nasal products and other corticosteroids (such as prednisone). Do not start or stop any medicine without MD or pharmacist approval.
Nasonex Warnings
Tell your MD your complete medical history, including all allergies, current infections, other nasal problems, glaucoma, cataracts.
Avoid exposure to chickenpox or measles while using Nasonex or other corticosteroids (such as prednisone), especially oral products. If exposed, consult a doctor.
It is very unlikely, but possible, that this medication will be absorbed into your bloodstream. This may have undesirable results and you may require additional corticosteroid treatment. The risk is higher for children and for those who have used Nasonex for an extended period of time, if they also have serious medical problems such as serious infections, injuries or surgeries. Consult your MD or pharmacist for more details.
In children the drug should be used cautiously as it may affect growth patterns. Consult a children's doctor.
During pregnancy, Nasonex shouldn't be used unless clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is not known whether Nasonex passes into breast milk. Consult a MD before breastfeeding while using Nasonex.
