Prilosec information
Prilosec is used for the treatment of ulcers, esophagitis, and various conditions stemming from excessive acid secretion in the stomach.
Using Prilosec
Use Prilosec exactly as directed by your doctor. Prilosec is taken by mouth, usually once a day, one hour before a meal, though in some cases it may be prescribed twice a day. Prilosec will be significantly less effective if taken after a meal rather than before it.
The capsules should be swallowed whole. If you have difficulty swallowing, open the capsule and sprinkle the contents over a soft food such as applesauce, then swallow small amounts without chewing.
Do not take higher doses of Prilosec or more often than was prescribed for you. Do not quit using Prilosec without consulting a physician first.
How to store Prilosec
Store at room temp. away from sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
What to do on a missed Prilosec Dosge
If you miss a dose of Prilosec, take it as soon as you remember, but if it is already close to the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the one regularly scheduled. Avoid taking a double dose unless your MD specifically directs you to.
Prilosec's Side Effects
Prilosec may cause nausea or stomach ache; if these persist or are bothersome, consult a doctor.
Inform your MD if you experience any of the following side effects: rapid heartbeat, muscle pain, chest pain, stomach pain, diarrhea, changes in stool color, breathing difficulties, mood changes, or vision changes.
It is unlikely that you will experience an allergic reaction to Prilosec, but if you do, seek immediate medical help.
Drug Interactions with Prilosec
The drug sucralfate (Carafate) lowers the effectiveness of Prilosec. If you have taken Prilosec, wait at least 30 minutes before taking sucralfate.

Prilosec Warnings
Tell your MD of any drugs you may be using, whether prescription or non-prescription, especially sucralfate, iron, theophylline, ampicillin, digoxin, or ketoconazole. Do not start or quit using any drug without the supervision of a MD or pharmacist.
